Oversize charges

Any single item, which exceeds 1.58 metres (158 cms / 62.2 inches) in total dimensions is subject to an oversize charge of USD 150 per bag or piece This fee is applicable for international journeys (except flights from London) under both weight and piece concept. For flights departing from London, an oversize charge of GBP 150 per piece will apply.
For flights departing from Dammam, carriage of all oversized articles more than 42 inches in length will be charged an additional fee of SAR 175.

Sporting equipments are exempted from oversize charges. Standard excess baggage charges will apply to sporting equipments exceeding free baggage allowance.

The different categories of sporting equipment are defined as under:

  • Free Baggage Allowance: 15 Kgs
  • Guest carrying 1 bag weighing 5 kgs + 1 golf kit (exceeding 1.58 metres (158 cms / 62.2 inches)) weighing 10 kgs
  • No excess baggage charge will apply.

Scenario 2

  • Guest carrying 1 bag weighing 10 kgs + 1 golf kit (exceeding 1.58 metres (158 cms / 62.2 inches)) weighing 10 kgs
  • Excess baggage fee for 5 kgs at the applicable rate will be levied.

Sporting equipment including but not limited to, cricket bats, golf clubs, ski poles, hockey sticks, pool cues etc. or items that can be used as a weapon, are not permitted as part of cabin baggage on flights operating from airports within India.
These articles may be carried as checked in baggage.

Musical Instruments

A guest can carry fragile or delicate items such as musical instruments, electronic equipments, paintings and diplomatic mail in the cabin by blocking an extra seat beside himself or herself. The weight of the musical instrument on the extra seat should not exceed 75 kgs and must be of a size and shape such that it can be secured with the seat belt or extension belt. JetPrivilege members will earn JPMiles only for one seat as per class eligibility. JetPrivilege members would not earn JPMiles for the extra seat. Tele Check-in, Web, kiosk and Mobile Check-in will not be permitted for such guests.

Television carriage charges

Jet Airways levies a fee for carriage of television from the below airports

  • LCD / LED TVs exceeding the size 1.40 metres (140 cms / 55 inches) will not be accepted.

  • The maximum acceptable size for LCD / LED televisions transported on Boeing 737 flights operating from the Gulf is 1.22 meters (122 cms / 48 inches).

  • Excess Baggage charges will apply as per standard baggage policy in addition to above flat fee for TV sets exceeding free baggage allowance.

  • Weapons and Ammunitions

    Security regulations prohibit the carriage of weapons in the passenger cabin except for those authorized by the Government of India.

    Besides actual weapons, certain items that may be misused as weapons or resemble weapons are also prohibited from being carried in the passenger cabin.

    Bringing a prohibited item to the Passenger and Cabin Baggage Screening point without authorization is a criminal offence and may result in charges and prosecution. The following list of weapons may be carried in checked-in luggage, provided they are sheathed or securely packed to prevent injury to handlers and screeners:

    • Knives
    • Box cutter
    • Swords
    • Spears
    • Martial Arts weapons
    • Licensed firearms

    As per directives from the Regulatory Authority of India, weapons and ammunition can be placed onboard the aircraft only in a special compartment designed for carriage of weapons and ammunition. Accordingly, the weapon will be segregated from the registered baggage and will be placed separately in the weapon compartment in case you are traveling on an ATR aircraft.

    To comply with the requirement of the regulatory authority, a special compartment measuring 0.23 metre wide, 0.76 metre in height and 0.10 metre in depth (09 inches wide, 30 inches in height and 04 inches in depth) has been provided onboard the ATR aircraft . Only weapons that fit into this special compartment shall be accepted for carriage on the ATR aircraft. Weapon holders are requested to confirm the type of aircraft and the size of weapon at the time of ticket booking.

    Note: On domestic sectors we will levy a charge INR 5,000 per fire arm, air gun and or ammunition (up to 50 rounds) per guest towards additional services provided during handling and carriage of fire arms, air gun(s) or ammunition in their registered baggage.

    On international sectors guests will be charged USD 100 for the additional service provided during handling and carriage of fire arm(s), air gun(s) or ammunition in their registered baggage.

    The following personnel are exempted and will not be charged the mentioned fee provided they fulfill the conditions as specified:

    • Serving personnel from Indian Defence forces, Para military forces and Police if travelling on duty and carrying an official movement order issued by their concerned department authorizing the carriage of weapon and or ammunition for official purpose.

    • Indian sportsperson traveling to either domestic or international destinations for a competition or representing the country, will be exempted from paying the charge levied for firearms, air gun(s) andor ammunition provided they fulfill the following conditions :

      • Provide a government recognised identification document for the sportsman. Evidence of identity can be established by a photo identity card issued by a government agency or the sponsoring club.

      • Valid license or authorization of fire arms and ammunition.

      • Bonafide for carriage of arms and ammunition on the basis of a written document issued by the President or Secretary of the sports club sponsoring him orher for the shooting event.

      • Standard excess baggage charges will apply for carriage of weapons and ammunitions exceeding the free baggage allowance.

    Licenced firearm(s) and/or ammunition will only be accepted as check-in baggage within 2 hours of the scheduled time of departure.

    For travel involving connecting flights between more than 1 destination, licenced firearm(s) and/or ammunition will only be accepted as through check-in baggage if the connection time between the arrival flight and connecting departure flight is less than 2 hours. If the time between connecting flights exceeds 2 hours, guests will be required to recheck in their licenced firearm(s) and/or ammunition for their connecting flight.

    Carriage of Kirpans in the Passenger Cabin

    The 'Kirpan' is an important religious symbol of Sikhism. As per Indian law, guests travelling on flights with point of origin and destination both being within India, on an Indian registered aircraft are permitted to carry a 'Kirpan' in person. The dimensions of the 'Kirpan' must not exceed a total maximum length of 0.23 metre (22.86 cms / 9 inches), including the length of the blade not exceeding 0.15 metre (15.24 cms / 6 inches) and the length of the handle not exceeding 0.076 metre (7.62 cms / 3 inches).

    Carriage of ‘Kirpan’ shall not be permitted in the cabin of an aircraft on an International flight and the same shall be carried by the guest in his check-in baggage only.

    Pet in Hold

    Pet animals can be carried on Jet Airways flights as baggage or shipped cargo. Pets such as household birds, rabbits, canaries are allowed only in the aircraft holds. Live animals should be carried in escape proof containers of proper size with ample ventilation. The container must not be made of chewable material. One guest can check in a maximum of 3 containers.     As per article of General Conditions of Carriage, guests should not include in checked baggage, any valuable item like money, jewellery, electronic and photographic equipment, precious metal, silverware, negotiable papers, certificates , securities or valuable business documents, passports or any identification documents or samples.

    However, a guest may declare a value for checked baggage in excess of the applicable liability limits. Valuation charge is paid at the time of check-in. If such a bag is missing or damaged, the insurance company will settle the declared value provided the guest can prove that the value declared was in fact the actual value of the item.

    A maximum amount of Rs. 100,000 / USD 4,000 can be declared, for domestic travel. The valuation charge is USD 0.5 per 100 USD or portion thereof for international travel.

    Dry Ice

    Jet Airways accepts dry ice in cabin and checked in baggage but in limited quantities only. As cabin baggage for domestic and international sectors: Not exceeding 2.5 kg used to refrigerate perishable products. However the restriction per compartment varies and is listed below.

    As checked baggage for flights within India:

    • B737: Up to 2.5 kgs per guest with a maximum of 20 kgs per compartment. Maximum is 80 kgs.

    • ATR: Up to 2.5 kgs per guest with a maximum of 20 kgs per compartment. Maximum is 40kgs.

    As checked baggage for international flights:

    • B737: Up to 2.5 kgs per guest with a maximum of 20kgs per compartment. Maximum is 80 kgs.

    • A330: Up to 2.5 kgs maximum per guest with a maximum of 20kgs.

    The maximum limit for bulk hold is 50 kgs.

    Carriage of Human Remains

    We accept human remains* and cremated remains on our flights.

    For information on procedures and requirements to transport human remains, kindly contact our cargo team.

    Cremated remains may be carried on board on our flights as hand baggage or alternately as cargo.

    In order to comply with regulations, guests will need to carry a certificate of death and cremation of the deceased (or other country-specific equivalent document) issued by a competent authority from the country of departure. Guests will also need to ensure that the cremated remains are packed in a sealed outer box or case.

    Please note if you are carrying cremated remains in your hand baggage, all existing security procedures will apply and the sealed box or case will be scanned through the X-ray device at the airport security point. Guests will be permitted to carry cremated remains as hand baggage subject to airport security clearance.

    *Not applicable for carriage on ATR aircraft type.

    Please Note:All guests carrying check-in baggage or items exceeding the specified dimensions of 158 cms will be charged a flat fee of INR 1000 at the airport counter. This fee will be charged in addition to the existing excess baggage fee wherever applicable. This fee is applicable to all guests travelling within India.
