The Free Baggage Allowance on JetKonnect is 15 kgs on flights within India. Ship Crew is entitled to 40 kgs baggage allowance on flights within India as long as the necessary parameters are met.
Security regulations prohibit the carriage of weapons in the passenger cabin except authorized by Government of India.
Besides actual weapons, certain items are also prohibited from being carried in the passenger cabin. These items are those that may be misused as weapons or resemble weapons.
Bringing a prohibited item to the Passenger and Cabin Baggage Screening point without authorization is a criminal offence and may result in charges and prosecution.
The following weapons may be carried in checked-in luggage, provided they are sheathed / securely packed to prevent injury to handlers and screeners: Knives, Box cutters, Swords, Spear guns, Martial Arts weapons and Licensed firearms.
Following Personnel are exempted and will not be charged provided they fulfill the conditions as specified:
According to the Government of India, airlines shall not permit any guest to carry arms and ammunition whether in person or in his / her hand baggage. If a person has licensed arms and ammunition, Jet Airways would check the documentation and the guest might be permitted to carry them in the registered baggage while travelling JetKonnect. In such cases, the ammunition is removed from the weapon and kept separately. At the time of baggage screening, the guest must declare that he is carrying firearms / ammunition.
The Special Protection Group (SPG) is statutorily charged with the responsibility of providing security to specified persons. Government instructions stipulate that they are allowed to carry fully unloaded arms as hand baggage while on duty. The ammunition however shall be carried separately. It is the responsibility of the SPG to ensure that on board a commercial flight, the custody of the ammunition is clearly in the hands of the SPG personnel other than those who have the custody of the arms.
The carriage policy for arms and ammunition for travel within India as well as international travel is the same. However, prior clearance from the destination country may additionally be required.
Effective June 5, 2012 an Oversize fee of INR 1000 is applicable on oversized bags / kits that exceed the total dimensions of 158 cms. This fee is applicable to all guests travelling within India.
This charge is be applicable to Musical Instruments, sporting equipment such as golf kits, ski equipment, parachutes / parasailing equipment, scuba diving equipment, surfboards, fishing equipment and bicycles.
This fee will be in addition to the excess baggage rate of INR 250 / kg wherever applicable.
Examples:Scenario 1
A guest can carry fragile or delicate items such as musical instruments, electronic equipments, paintings and diplomatic mail in the cabin by blocking an extra seat next to him / her. The weight of the musical instrument on the extra sear should not exceed 75kgs and must be of a size and shape so that it can be secured with the seat belt or extension belt. JetPrivilege members will earn JPMiles only for one seat as per class eligibility. JetPrivilege members would not earn any JPMiles for the extra seat. Tele Check-in and Web Check-in will not be permitted for such guests.
As per article of General Conditions of Carriage guests should not include in checked baggage any valuable item like money , jewelry, electronic and photographic equipment, precious metal, silverware, negotiable papers, certificates , securities or valuable business documents, passports or any identification documents or samples.
However a guest may declare a value for checked baggage in excess of the applicable liability limits. Valuation charge is paid at the time of check-in. If such a bag is missing or damaged, the insurance company will settle the declared value provided the guest can prove that the value declared was in fact the value of the item.
Jet Airways allows non-motorized touring or racing bicycles to be carried as luggage on Boeing flights, but not on CRJ flights while travelling on JetKonnect. The bicycle must be packed in a bike box or protective packaging.The handle and bars must be turned sideways and the pedals detached. Bicycles are charged as extra if the 2 piece concept is applicable. In the weight concept,we do not have any separate charge for bicycles and will charge excess baggage above the free baggage allowance.
Surfboard of fibre glass not exceeding 62 inches (158cms) will be included in the free baggage allowance and if in excess, it will be subject to the applicable excess baggage charge.
The Kirpan is a religious symbol of Sikhism. Sikh guests travelling on flights within India may carry a Kirpan on their person, provided the length of blade does not exceed 6 inches and the length of the handle does not exceed 3 inches.
Pet animals can be carried on Jet Airways flights as guest’s baggage or shipped cargo while travelling JetKonnect. Pets such as dogs, cats, household birds, rabbits, canaries are allowed only in the aircraft holds. Live animals should be carried in escape proof containers of proper size with ample ventilation. The container must be strong i.e. not made of chewable material. One guest can check in maximum of 3 containers. Excess baggage is charged for the live animal including the weight of the container irrespective of the free baggage allowance of the guest. We do not carry live animals on the CRJ aircraft.
