Baggage Allowance & Excess Baggage Charges
Weight Concept

The Free Baggage Allowance on JetKonnect is 15 kgs on flights within India. Ship Crew is entitled to 40 kgs baggage allowance on flights within India as long as the necessary parameters are met.

Piece Concept
The piece concept is applicable to:
  • Journey to / from USA and Canada
  • 2 pieces of 23 kgs each will be allowed

Infants without a seat are permitted one piece of 23 kgs.

Children and Infants with booked seats will have the same allowance as adults.

To avail the piece concept it has to be ticketed on the same itinerary. Effective October 1, 2011, if separate tickets are issued for routes within India and International connections, the baggage allowance shown on the domestic tickets will apply to domestic India routes.

Weapons and Ammunitions

Security regulations prohibit the carriage of weapons in the passenger cabin except authorized by Government of India.

Besides actual weapons, certain items are also prohibited from being carried in the passenger cabin. These items are those that may be misused as weapons or resemble weapons.

Bringing a prohibited item to the Passenger and Cabin Baggage Screening point without authorization is a criminal offence and may result in charges and prosecution.

The following weapons may be carried in checked-in luggage, provided they are sheathed / securely packed to prevent injury to handlers and screeners: Knives, Box cutters, Swords, Spear guns, Martial Arts weapons and Licensed firearms.

Effective November 15, 2011 JetKonnect will charge INR 5000/- per fire arm, airgun and / or ammunition (up to 50 rounds) per guest for additional services provided during handling and carriage of fire arm, air gun or ammunition in their registered baggage.

Following Personnel are exempted and will not be charged provided they fulfill the conditions as specified:

  • Serving personnel from Defense forces, Para military forces and Police if travelling on duty and carrying an official movement order issued by their concerned department authorizing the carriage of weapon and / or ammunition for official purpose.
  • Sportsman traveling either domestic or International for a competition or representing the country, will be exempted from paying the charge levied for firearms, airgun and/or ammunition provided they fulfill the following conditions :
    • Identification document for the sportsman. Evidence of identity can be established by a photo identity card issued by a government agency or the sponsoring club.
    • Valid license/authorization of fire arms and ammunition.
    • Bonafide for carriage of arms and ammunition on the basis of a written document issued by the President or Secretary of the sports club sponsoring him/her for the shooting event.

Firearms

According to the Government of India, airlines shall not permit any guest to carry arms and ammunition whether in person or in his / her hand baggage. If a person has licensed arms and ammunition, Jet Airways would check the documentation and the guest might be permitted to carry them in the registered baggage while travelling JetKonnect. In such cases, the ammunition is removed from the weapon and kept separately. At the time of baggage screening, the guest must declare that he is carrying firearms / ammunition.

The Special Protection Group (SPG) is statutorily charged with the responsibility of providing security to specified persons. Government instructions stipulate that they are allowed to carry fully unloaded arms as hand baggage while on duty. The ammunition however shall be carried separately. It is the responsibility of the SPG to ensure that on board a commercial flight, the custody of the ammunition is clearly in the hands of the SPG personnel other than those who have the custody of the arms.

The carriage policy for arms and ammunition for travel within India as well as international travel is the same. However, prior clearance from the destination country may additionally be required.
