Oversize charges

For travel effective June 18, 2012, any single item, which exceeds 158 cms in total dimensions is subject to an oversize charge of USD 150 per bag/piece irrespective of the booking date. This fee is applicable for international journeys (except from London) under both weight and piece concept.

For travel effective August 27, 2012, sporting equipments are exempted from Oversize charge. Standard excess baggage charges will apply to sporting equipments exceeding free baggage allowance irrespective of the booking date.

For ease of reference, the different categories of sporting equipment are defined as under:

Type of Sporting Equipment Definition
Bicycle Non-motorized touring or racing bicycles.
Fishing Equipment 2 rods + 1 reel + 1 landing net + 1 pair of waders + tackle box
Golf Kit 1 golf bag containing not more than 14 golf clubs + 12 golf balls + 1 pair of golf shoes
Paragliding Equipment Non-motorized paragliding equipment. Motorized paragliding equipment and hang-gliding equipment are not permitted as baggage.
Scuba Diving Equipment 1 empty scuba tank + 1 scuba regulator + 1 tank harness + 1 tank pressure gauge + 1 mask + 2 fins + 1 snorkel + 1 knife + 1 spear gun + 1 safety vest
Ski Kit Equipment 1 pair of skis + 1 pair of ski poles + 1 pair of boots
Snow board 1 snowboard + 1 pair of boots
Surfboard Surfboard of fibre glass.
Water Ski 1 pair of standard water skis or 1 slalom water ski

Examples:

Scenario 1

  • Free Baggage Allowance: 20 Kgs
  • Guest is carrying 1 bag weighing 10 kgs + 1 golf kit (exceeding 158 cms) weighing 10 kgs
  • Charge: No excess baggage charge will apply.
Scenario 2
  • Free Baggage Allowance: 20 Kgs
  • Guest is carrying 1 bag weighing 10 kgs + 1 golf kit (exceeding 158 cms) weighing 15 kgs
  • Charges: Excess baggage fee for 5 kgs at the applicable rate.



Musical Instruments

A guest can carry fragile or delicate items such as musical instruments, electronic equipments, paintings and diplomatic mail in the cabin by blocking an extra seat next to him / her. The weight of the musical instrument on the extra seat should not exceed 75 kgs and must be of a size and shape so that it can be secured with the seat belt or extension belt. JetPrivilege members will earn JPMiles only for one seat as per class eligibility. JetPrivilege members would not earn any JPMiles for the extra seat. Tele Check-in and Web Check-in will not be permitted for such guests.



Weapons and Ammunitions

Security regulations prohibit the carriage of weapons in the passenger cabin except authorized by Government of India.


Besides actual weapons, certain items are also prohibited from being carried in the passenger cabin. These items are those that may be misused as weapons or resemble weapons.


Bringing a prohibited item to the Passenger and Cabin Baggage Screening point without authorization is a criminal offence and may result in charges and prosecution.


The following list of weapons may be carried in checked-in luggage, provided they are sheathed / securely packed to prevent injury to handlers and screeners:

  • Knives
  • Box cutters
  • Swords
  • Spear guns
  • Martial Arts weapons
  • Licensed firearms

Kindly Note: Jet Airways and JetKonnect will charge INR 5000/- per fire arm, air gun and / or ammunition (up to 50 rounds) per guest for additional services provided during handling and carriage of fire arm, air gun or ammunition in their registered baggage on domestic sectors.

On International sectors guest will be charged US $100 for the additional service provided during handling and carriage of fire arm, air gun or ammunition in their registered baggage.


Following Personnel are exempted and will not be charged provided they fulfill the conditions as specified:

  • Serving personnel from Defense forces, Para military forces and Police if travelling on duty and carrying an official movement order issued by their concerned department authorizing the carriage of weapon and / or ammunition for official purpose.
  • Sportsman traveling either domestic or International for a competition or representing the country, will be exempted from paying the charge levied for firearms, airgun and/or ammunition provided they fulfill the following conditions :
    • Identification document for the sportsman. Evidence of identity can be established by a photo identity card issued by a government agency or the sponsoring club.
    • Valid license/authorization of fire arms and ammunition.
    • Bonafide for carriage of arms and ammunition on the basis of a written document issued by the President or Secretary of the sports club sponsoring him/her for the shooting event.



Carriage of Kirpans in the Passenger Cabin

The Kirpan is a very important religious symbol of Sikhism. Indian laws permit Sikh guests travelling on domestic flights within India to carry a Kirpan on their person, provided the length of blade does not exceed 6 inches and the length of the handle does not exceed 3 inches.



Pet in Hold

Pet animals can be carried on Jet Airways flights as guest baggage or shipped cargo. Pets such as dogs, cats, household birds, rabbits, canaries are allowed only in the aircraft holds. Live animals should be carried in escape proof containers of proper size with ample ventilation. The container must be b i.e. not made of chewable material. One guest can check in maximum of 3 containers.


Charges: Excess baggage is charged for the live animal including the weight of the container irrespective of the free baggage allowance of the guest.


Note :
  • On flights within India, live animals are not carried in ATR flights.

  • On international flights for the U.K., pets are not permitted as baggage and must be sent as cargo.

  • Health and vaccination certificates must be in order.



Valuables

As per article of General Conditions of Carriage, guests should not include in checked baggage, any valuable item like money, jewelry, electronic and photographic equipment, precious metal, silverware, negotiable papers, certificates , securities or valuable business documents, passports or any identification documents or samples.


However, a guest may declare a value for checked baggage in excess of the applicable liability limits. Valuation charge is paid at the time of check-in. If such a bag is missing or damaged, the insurance company will settle the declared value provided the guest can prove that the value declared was in fact the value of the item.


Valuation Charge = 1% of guest liability
= 1% (Declared Value – Airline Liability)
= 1% (Declared Value – 450 X Weight of piece in kgs)

Example:
Value declared : Rs. 25,000
Less: Airline liability (or Airline Compensation) : Rs. 9,000 (450 X Weight of piece in kgs)
Guest Liability : Rs. 16,000
Valuation Charge : Rs. 160 (1% of guest liability)

The maximum amount of Rs. 100,000 / USD 4,000 can be declared, for domestic travel. The valuation charge is USD 0.50 per 100 USD or portion thereof for international travel.



Dry Ice

Jet Airways accepts dry ice in cabin and checked in baggage but in limited quantities only. As Cabin baggage for domestic and international Sectors: Not exceeding 2.5 kg used to refrigerate perishable products. However the restriction per compartment varies and is listed below.


As checked baggage for sectors within India:
  • B737: 2.5 kgs maximum per guest with 20 kgs max per compartment. Maximum is 80 kgs.

  • ATR: 2.5 kgs maximum per guest with 20 kgs max per compartment. Maximum is 40kgs.


As checked baggage for international sectors:
  • B737: 2.5 kgs maximum per guest with 20kgs max per compartment. Maximum is 80 kgs.

  • A330: 2.5 kgs maximum per guest with 20kgs.


The maximum for bulk hold is 50 kgs for others holding no restriction.




Carriage of Human Remains

Cremated remains may not be carried as carry-on or checked-in baggage. Should you wish to carry cremated remains, Jet Airways' cargo team will help you make arrangements.



Please Note: All guests carrying check-in baggage / items exceeding the specified dimensions of 158 cms will be charged a flat fee of INR 1000 at the airport counter. This fee will be charged in addition to the existing excess baggage fee wherever applicable. This fee is applicable to all guests travelling within India.
