Carriage of Stretcher

We accept stretcher passengers on all domestic flights. Jet Airways will also accept stretcher passengers on hopping (direct and multi sector) provided there is no change of aircraft at the intermediate points.Stretcher cases will not be carried on the sectors operated by ATR 72-500.

Positioning of Stretcher:
Stretchers will be positioned at Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Port Blair.

Reservations:
Stretcher cases will be accepted on all our flights (direct and hopping) provided there is no change of aircraft at the intermediate points and the passenger holds one flight coupon from origin to destination.

Minimum reservation time for stretchers is 24 hours from Metro Cities and 48 hours for other stations. However cutoff time for last minute Emergency stretcher cases will be 6 hours prior to departure provided MEDA forms can be cleared by the medical department, all necessary approvals (from Engineering, Security, etc.) can be processed and uplift of additional oxygen cylinders can be arranged.

Effective April 21, 2009
Due to customs constraint we will not be carrying stretchers on board our international flights until further notice.

Exception:
Due to high demand of medical/stretcher passengers, IXZ is the only non Metro city to have one stretcher kit and oxygen cylinders positioned at their location. On a case to case basis IXZ can accept stretcher passengers even within 6 hrs of flight departure depending on the criticality of the case and medical approvals received.

Only one stretcher case per aircraft will be permitted in the Economy Class Cabin.

Basic fare -Nine times the adult basic one-way normal sector fare
There will be a one time charge of all applicable taxes.
Name on the ticket Stretcher passenger's name.
Accompanying passengers with the stretcher passenger - maximum of 3.
The accompanying attendant(s) will pay only the applicable taxes up to a maximum of 3 in party. These accompanying attendant(s) will be seated on the aisle seats of the block where the stretcher is fitted.
PTAs will be accepted for stretcher case.
Free Baggage Allowance - The total free baggage allowances will be according to the number of seats paid.However, each passenger will be allowed to carry only the single entitlement of hand baggage and personal articles.

Clearance from Medical Department:

Clearance for all stretcher cases will be done by the Medical Regional Heads at Mukmbai/Delhi/Kolkata and by the doctor in charge at Chennai. All requests for serious/critically ill cases (as decided by the regional heads/or Doctor-in-Charge) will continue to be forwarded to the company doctor on duty at the medical department Mumbai will confirm 'FIT TO FLY' status
Please note stretcher cases must be accompanied by a medical escort (doctor, with minimum MBBS) or paramedical escort (registered nurse) or non medical escort as per the decision of the medical department. Prior permission must be obtained from the medical department when a relative escorts the stretcher case.
Assessment by company doctor/designated doctor (in stations where company doctor is not available) just before departure may be required in certain cases, before giving final approval. A fresh MEDA form (giving details of passenger's medical condition) on the day of travel may be asked for in selected cases. If the passenger's medical status is noted to have deteriorated, as compared to the details provided in the MEDA form, permission to fly may be refused. In all cases, the decision of the Jet Airway's medical department regarding the fitness of passenger to fly and the type of escort required, will be final.
The MEDA Form should be complete, accurately and legibly filled by the patient's treating doctor and faxed to the appropriate Company Medical Regional Heads or Doctor in Charge, at least 24-48 hours prior to the flight. All medical details asked for must be completed. The passenger must produce a certificate from his treating doctor certifying that he is fit to travel by air and is free from any contagious disease as well as a detailed medical report from the treating doctor. These documents should be also faxed to the Medical Regional Heads / doctor in charge at MAA, for approval.
The indemnity bond should be completed and signed by the patient/his relative on reaching the airport.
After confirming fit to fly status, the doctor on duty will certify and fax the MEDA form back to the departure station.

Reporting for Stretcher Case passengers is 1 hour prior to departure of the flight.

Procedure as mentioned above also applies for passengers arriving from international/domestic sectors by other airlines and connecting on Jet Airways flights.

Relatives and passengers must also request their treating physicians to refer to the 'GUIDELINES' printed on the reverse of the MEDA Form. Kindly note the following:

Due to security reasons, personal oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, etc., will not be carried on board the aircraft.
Cabin Staff are trained in first aid only and are not expected to render special nursing care to critically ill cases. Cabin crew are not permitted to administer injections or open physician kits which contain life saving drugs and equipments. These kits can be opened only under instructions of Registered Medical Practitioners.
No services such as urine bags, pampers, etc., will be provided by Jet Airways.Passengers will have to make their own arrangements if they wish to carry any of these items.
No medical support will be provided by Jet Airways.The passenger will have to be accompanied by a medical escort (doctor, with minimum MBBS) or paramedical escort (registered nurse) or non medical escort as per the decision of the medical department.
No Ambulift facility can be guaranteed at the airport for transfer of a patient.However, passenger or his relatives may liaise with the respective Airport Manager for this facility well in advance.
Ground and Transit oxygen arrangements are to be made by the passenger in conjunction with the Airport manager or ground staff in liaison with AAI.

Procedure for Carriage of Life Saving Equipment on Board:

Treating Physician should give a certificate stating -

All equipment is battery operated (dry, non-spillable batteries only).
The equipment is life-saving and will be required inflight.
The battery does not need to be recharged.
It will not emit any electromagnetic radiation which could interfere with the communication/navigation of the aircraft or aircraft equipment.
Manufacturers details regarding equipment should be submitted.
All equipment on board must be secure.
Guidelines for carrying life-saving equipment on-board to be
followed.
Ventilators and personal oxygen cylinders/oxygen concentrators are not permitted on the aircraft.

Jet Airways would be responsible only for the transport of the passenger by air from one sector to another.Arrangements for and cost of all equipment/ medications/accompanying medical escorts/ambulift facility etc., would have to be borne by the passenger.

The flight(s) on which the stretcher case passenger is being carried, may be rescheduled for that particular day, as time would be required to fix the stretcher and necessary equipment on board the aircraft.

Important Notice: The distance between the cabin overhead panel and stretcher top cushion is 2 feet and the height of the stretcher from the floor is 3.39 feet.

Please note that the stretcher is installed as per the manufacturer's recommendations and w regret that individual requests for any alteration in installation cannot be met with.
