Country Specific Restrictions

United States of America

Due to various security measures, in cases of doubt the security officials would need to open bags without the presence of the guest. Incase the baggage is locked using regular locks, our security officers would be forced to break them open. This may cause inconvenience to the guest and may be a hindrance for the baggage security further throughout the journey. Therefore to avoid loss and any further issues, the Transport Security Administration requests guest traveling to the US to utilize locks that can be opened by security officers using universal "master" keys so that the locks may not have to be cut. These locks are available at airports and travel stores nationwide. The packaging on the locks indicates whether they can be opened by the Transport Security Administration

European Union (EU)

Security rules in your hand luggage

Effective November 06, 2006 at all airports in the European Union (EU) and in Norway, Iceland and Switzerland the below restrictions apply:

  • You are only allowed to take small quantities of liquids in your hand luggage. These liquids must be in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100 millilitres each. You must pack these containers in one transparent, re-sealable plastic bag of not more than one litre capacity per passenger

To help screeners detect liquids at the airport, you must:

  • Present all liquids carried to the screeners at security checkpoints for examination
  • Take off your jacket and/or coat. They will be screened separately whilst you are screened
  • Remove laptop computers and other large electrical devices from your hand luggage. They will be screened separately whilst you are screened

Liquids include:

  • Alcoholic Beverages
  • Water and other drinks, soups, syrups
  • Creams, lotions and oils
  • Perfumes
  • Sprays
  • Gels, including hair and shower gels
  • Contents of pressurised containers, including shaving foam, other foams and deodorants
  • Pastes, including toothpaste
  • Liquid-solid mixtures
  • Mascara
  • Any other item of similar consistency

What does not change:

You can still:

  • Pack liquids in bags that you check in – the new rules only affect hand luggage
  • Carry in your hand luggage medicines and dietary requirements, including baby foods, for use during the trip. You may be asked for proof that they are needed
  • Buy liquids such as drinks and perfumes either in an EU airport shop when located beyond the point where you show your boarding pass or on board an aircraft operated by an EU airline. If they are sold in a special sealed bag, do not open it before you are screened – otherwise the contents may be confiscated at the checkpoint. (If you transfer at an EU airport, do not open the bag before screening at your airport of transfer, or at the last one if you transfer more than once)

All these liquids are additional to the quantities in the re-sealable plastic bag mentioned above.

  • Only one transparent re-sealable plastic bag will be permitted per passenger.
  • The transparent re-sealable plastic bag must be presented separately for examination at the security screening point.

Cabin baggage policy

Cabin Baggage Standards by British Airports Authority (BAA) at London Heathrow British Airports Authority (BAA) has implemented IATA standards for cabin baggage size effective from 1st August, 2006 on all flights departing from all terminals of London Heathrow. The decision of implementation is taken in light of security reasons and flight delays caused due to long passenger queues at the Central Security Search (& Flight Connections Centre) at London Heathrow Airport as a result of passengers carrying hand baggage in sizes too big for the X-Ray machine. The IATA standard dimension of permitted cabin hand baggage is 22 inches (56 cms) in length; 18 inches (45 cms) in width and 10 inches (25 cms) in depth. Passengers carrying hand baggage exceeding these dimensions, will not be permitted to pass through Central Security Search. Passengers will have to return to the airline’s check-in counters to check in the hand baggage or repack them into smaller hand bags. No exemptions will be given. Each passenger is restricted to carrying only one item (in addition to the re-sealable liquids bag) through the airport search point. Musical instruments will, as an exception , be allowed as a second item of cabin baggage, but will need to be screened and passengers should check with their airlines if special arrangements (e.g. purchasing an extra seat) for these large instruments will be required. For passengers checking in from all UK domestic flights onwards to any international flights, baggage gauges (with the stipulated size) have been placed at strategic locations to measure the size of cabin baggage. Passengers will not be permitted to carry the cabin baggage which does not fit the gauge size.

The cabin baggage policy will apply to:

  • All terminals
  • All airlines
  • Central Areas only

The policy will not be applied in Flight Connections Centre, Terminal Transfer Search Areas, Staff Search or Control Posts.

Exceptions to the limitations of the hand baggage are:

  • Human Remains
  • Baby buggies, strollers, car seats
  • Wheelchairs
  • Religious articles
  • Wedding dresses and suit carriers
  • Medical equipment
  • Musical instruments
  • Artwork
  • Pictures
  • Hat boxes
