Cabin Baggage and Hand Baggage Regulations:
Experience has shown that excess cabin baggage is a safety hazard and can increase accidents in-flight. It can impede quick and safe evacuation during an emergency. Overloaded overhead baggage could lead to baggage falling out of the overhead bins and increase the possibility of injury. The comfort of passengers is also compromised when the cabin is cluttered with unstowed cabin baggage. To ensure our passengers' safety and comfort, we urge all passengers to observe the Indian Government's regulations permitting ONE piece of cabin baggage per adult passenger.
In view of the increased security regulations, passengers will not be permitted to carry gels, alcohol, liquids, creams, lotions etc in their cabin baggage. Hand baggage would be examined at the check in counter as well as at the ladder point by the airline security staff.

As per Government safety regulations only one piece of hand baggage not exceeding L + B + H being 55 + 35 + 25 = 115 cm per passenger will be allowed on a Boeing 737
On Airbus 330, following the rules of BAA (British Airports Authority) only one piece of hand baggage not exceeding L + B + H being 56 + 45 + 25 = 126 cm per passenger will be allowed.

On ATR-72 flights only one piece of hand baggage not exceeding L + B + H being 50 + 45 + 20 = 115 cm per passenger will be allowed.
Passengers are permitted to carry one laptop over and above one piece of hand luggage as cabin baggage.
Hand baggage that cannot be stowed in the overhead bins or under the seats will be retrieved and loaded in the aircraft cargo hold. On some occasions, your hand carried luggage may not be allowed into the aircraft cabin due to insufficient storage space. For safety reasons and for the comfort of our passengers, it will be transported in the baggage compartment of the aircraft.
You are advised to remove any fragile or perishable articles, money, camera, keys, jewellery, silverware, precious metals, negotiable papers, securities or other valuables, business documents, passports and other identification documents, samples, medicines or drugs before handing over your hand carried luggage for loading in the baggage compartment of the aircraft.
The weight of the hand baggage should not exceed 7 kgs. Strolley bags with the above specified dimensions will be allowed.
Contours are available at all airports to check the dimensions. If it exceeds these specifications, you will be requested to check your bag into the baggage hold. Hand baggage is accepted in the cabin subject to availability of space in the Over Head Bin. Restricted stowage space is also available under the front seat. In the event of no space being available in the aircraft to stow hand baggage, it will be necessary to remove and load the same in the baggage hold as per safety regulations.
Passengers traveling on flights originating from Jammu, Srinagar and Leh stations will not be allowed to carry any hand baggage.

Enforcement of Cabin Baggage Standards by British Airports Authority (BAA) at London Heathrow
British Airports Authority (BAA) is planning to implement IATA standards for cabin baggage size effective from 1st August, 2006 on all flights departing from all terminals of London Heathrow. The decision of implementation is taken in light of security reasons and flight delays caused due to long passenger queues at the Central Security Search (& Flight Connections Centre) at London Heathrow Airport as a result of passengers carrying hand baggage in sizes too big for the X-Ray machine.
The IATA standard dimension of permitted cabin hand baggage is 22 inches (56 cms) in length; 18 inches (45 cms) in width and 10 inches (25 cms) in depth.
Effective 1st August 2006, passengers regardless of class of travel, carrying hand baggage exceeding these dimensions, will not be permitted to pass through Central Security Search points of all terminals (1, 2, 3 & 4) of Heathrow Airport. Passengers will have to return to the airline’s check-in counters to check in the hand baggage or repack them into smaller hand bags. No exemptions will be given.
The cabin baggabe policy will apply to:
- All terminals.
- All airlines.
- Central Areas only.
The policy will not be applied in Flight Connections Centre, Terminal Transfer Search Areas, Stafff ASearch or Control Posts.
There are a few exceptions to the limitations of the hand baggage. These are:
Human Remains
Baby buggies, strollers, car seats
Wheelchairs
Religious articles
Wedding dresses and suit carriers
Medical equipment
Musical instruments
Artwork
Pictures
Hat boxes
For passengers checking in from all UK domestic flights onwards to any international flights, baggage gauges (with the stipulated size) have been placed at strategic locations to measure the size of cabin baggage. However from 1st August onwards, passengers will not be permitted to carry the cabin baggage which does not fit the gauge size.
Baggage policy for passengers traveling from India
Passengers traveling on migrant visas will be permitted to carry a maximum of 40 Kilos as free baggage allowance, where the weight concept is applicable on Jet Airways international flights and on the connecting Jet Airways domestic flights.
Security Measures at all UK airports effective November 06, 2006
Effective November 06, 2006 new security measures will come into effect for all passengers departing from UK airports.
Below is a guide to the requirements that will be in place as well as advice to help passengers pass through the security check as quickly as possible.
Passenger requirements
Liquids:
Some liquids will be allowed once again through airport security check points. There will however be restrictions on the quantity of liquids that can be taken through:
- Passengers may carry small quantities of liquids, but only within separate containers each of which with a capacity not greater than 100ml.
- These containers must be brought to the airport contained in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which itself must not exceed 1 litre in capacity (approximately 20cms x 20cms). The contents of the plastic bag must fit comfortably and the bag sealed. Each passenger may carry only one such bag of liquids
- The bag must be presented for examination at the airport security point.
- Liquids that can not be placed inside the re-sealable bag must be packed into the hold luggage and checked in.
Please note that 'Liquids' includes:
- All drinks, including water, soup, syrups n Pastes, including toothpastes.
- Creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara etc.
- Gels, including hair and shower gel.
- Sprays and pressurized containers including shaving foam and spray deodorants.
- Any other solutions and items of similar consistency.
Medicines:
Essential medicines and baby food may be permitted in larger quantities above the 100ml limit, but will be subject to the authentication that is already currently required.
Cabin baggage and size allowed:
Each passenger is restricted to carrying only one item (in addition to the re-sealable liquids bag) through the airport search point with a maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.
Pushchairs, walking aids and wheelchairs are permitted but will be screened.
Laptops / electrical items.
Laptops and other large electrical items (e.g. a large hairdryer) will have to be removed from cabin baggage and screened separately. A laptop bag will be regarded as your one item that is allowed in the cabin.
Outsize items:
- All items of luggage which do not fit in the permitted cabin baggage size (maximum length 56 cm, width of 45 cm and depth of 25 cm) must be checked in to be placed in the aircraft hold.
- Musical instruments will, as an exception, be allowed as a second item of cabin baggage, but will need to be screened and passengers should check with their airlines if special arrangements (e.g. purchasing an extra seat) for these large instruments will be required.
Preparing for your journey:
Passengers are asked to bear in mind the following advice to help make their passage through the airport as efficient and comfortable as possible:
Before you arrive at the airport:
- Limit quantities to what you may need in the cabin for the duration of the flight.
- When possible, put liquids in hold baggage.
- Prepare the re-sealable bag of liquids before arriving at the airport.
- Check any queries you have with your airport or airline before travelling to the airport.
At the security point:
- Be ready to hand over your re-sealable bag of liquids for screening as you approach the security check point. It will be screened at the same time as your cabin luggage.
- All coats and jackets will have to be removed ready to be screened and metal items including wallets will be placed in plastic trays and scanned separately.
- If you are carrying a laptop or any other large electrical item within your cabin luggage then please have it ready for separate screening as you approach the security check.
Duty free / departure lounge purchases:
- You may take on board liquid items of any size that are purchased after the security check in the Departure lounge (sometimes referred to as 'Airside').
- Most duty free or similar purchases will be given to you in a special sealed bag.
- Do not open this bag until you have reached your final destination.
- You should also retain your proof of purchase throughout your journey. You will be required to show it at all transfer points.
Please note: Restrictions apply to duty free purchases made on return journeys where passengers change flights at an EU airport. These are explained in detail in the next section.
Returning to or via the UK:
a) Travelling from an airport in the EU, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland:
The arrangements outlined above will apply, except that larger cabin bags will be permitted on a transitional basis until April 2007.
b) Travelling from an airport in any other country:
Local arrangements will apply.
c) Special information for transit passengers:
If your journey involves changing flights at any EU airport, special restrictions apply. You may only take liquid items (for example duty free) through the security check point at your connecting airport if:
- they conform to the requirements for passengers departing from EU airports as set out above; or
- they have been purchased airside at another EU airport, or on board an aircraft operated by an EU carrier. You will need to show proof of purchase to demonstrate this. Liquid items in excess of 100ml purchased from other airports or on board other airlines may only be carried as hold baggage on the connecting flight.
For any questions regarding these travel arrangements, passengers can contact Jet Airways Offices or their respective travel agents.
