General Baggage Information
This section provides you with detailed information related to our Baggage Allowances, Country Specific Restrictions, Baggage transfers etc.
The below information also includes data about all our security formalities and regulations which every passenger would require before his travel.
Delayed Baggage
- Delayed baggage must be reported to a Jet Airways representative or baggage agent in the baggage hall before you leave the airport. It is important to do so as soon as possible so we may obtain information pertinent to locating your luggage.
- Our representative or agent will create a Delayed Baggage Report for you. You'll be asked for contact information, and a description of your baggage and contents to assist in the search.
- If you must make interim purchases such as toiletries, please ask a baggage representative to inform you of our guidelines.
- An intensive search for your missing baggage will commence from the time the report is lodged. Our representative or agent will update you regularly of the outcome.
- In rare cases where the bag is not recovered within 14 days, Jet Airways will settle your claim up to our maximum liability of Rs450 per kilogram of checked baggage (for flights within India) or as limited by either the Montreal or the Warsaw Convention (for international flights), as applicable.
- If the value of your bag contents exceeds Jet Airways' liability, you may wish to consider purchasing baggage insurance through your own insurance company, prior to travel.

Damaged Baggage
- Jet Airways does everything possible to ensure careful baggage handling, but occasionally baggage or contents can be damaged during the sorting and loading processes.
- Damage to baggage or contents must be reported to a Jet Airways representative or baggage agent in the baggage hall before you leave the airport.
- Our agent will ask you to fill out some documentation and report the problem immediately. Damage due to over packing or excess weight is not covered.
- When damage is reported and deemed the result of negligence or accident on part of Jet Airways or its representatives, you'll be offered either immediate settlement or we'll arrange to have your baggage repaired at our cost.
- Fragile items packed in checked baggage are not covered by Jet Airways; please ensure all such items are securely packed to avoid damage, breakage or spillage.

General information
- For domestic travel, Jet Airways' maximum liability for lost or damaged baggage and lost contents as a result of damage is Rs450.00 per kilogram.
- For international travels, including the domestic portions, subject to the Warsaw Convention, the liability limit for delay, damage or loss is approximately U.S. $9.07 per pound (U.S. $20.00 per kg) for checked baggage. Where the Montreal Convention applies, the liability of the Carrier for the delay, damage or loss to checked baggage is limited to 1,000 Special Drawing Rights per passenger.
- Claims for pilferage, if any, will be settled by establishing actual weight loss or on the basis of estimated weight loss.
- Jet Airways assumes no liability for (but not limited to) fragile or perishable items, money, keys, jewellery, electronic and photographic equipment, precious metals, silverware, negotiable papers, securities, or other valuables, business documents, medicines, medical documents, passports and other identification document, or samples, which are included in the passenger's checked baggage with or without the knowledge of the Carrier. These articles are best hand carried.
- Baggage is designed to protect the contents. In the course of normal handling your luggage may show evidence of wear and tear. In addition, locks may be damaged by the airport conveyor belt systems. Jet Airways does not compensate for zippers, scruffs, scratches, nicks, dents, missing straps, feet, clips and wheels, exterior tube handles or similar damage attributable to normal wear and tear.
- Passengers departing from the U.S. should note that TSA (Transport Security Administration) screens every passenger's baggage before it is placed on an airplane. There are times when TSA has to physically inspect a piece of luggage. TSA has worked with several companies to develop locks that can be opened by security officers using universal "master" keys so that the locks may not have to be cut. Passengers departing from the U.S. are advised to use TSA approved locks. Details of such locks are available from the website: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/locks.shtm. These locks are available at airports and travel stores in the U.S. The packaging on the locks indicates whether they can be opened by TSA.
- At most airports in India and abroad, security regulations prohibit the hand carriage of liquids and gels over and above 100ml. Therefore Duty Free liquor and cosmetics of over 100ml in volume, purchased at International Airports will not be allowed as hand baggage on flights within India. In such cases, passengers are required to check-in such items and Jet Airways assumes no responsibility for their damage.
